Christmas canvas

My best fave blog of all time at the moment is My Little Craft Things - I just love her style - it's so me and I am taking on board all her tips and ideas.

I thought I would make my hubby a canvas for Christmas instead of a card and took one of her images as inspiration - I think I liked the charm really ;-)

The goat likes sparkly things and I had some red glitter covered sprigs and I wanted to use one of them as the centre piece.

Here is my version - with loads of layers and bits added.

There are loads of added bits and bobs round the stem - it's even got bells on

There are a few other of her friends blogs that are also totally awesome and I am going to be having a go at other projects in a similar vein - so I will let you know as I go along and you can join in.  I just wish I could get hold of some of the chipboard supplies that are used.

Nutcracker card

Hi to you all and I hope you had a lovely Christmas.  I had a very peaceful day and now I am catching up on some much needed rest.  I have to admit that I was getting desperate for a break - 6 day weeks are just too much for me.  I am off now until after New Year's Day - and I am loving every minute - just playing my game, watching the telly, doing a bit of crochet, and chilling out.

I thought I would show you the card I made for my son.  It's a collage using a fab image of the Nutcracker soldier that I found on All About The Paper.  It's not quite the same as I 'lost' the teeth and beard in the colouring.  Why do they have those - the teeth are so scary for little ones!!!!

Here is the finished piece

And lots of details - the flower group.  All sorts of things piled up over a postcard image - there are 2 die cut snowflakes - a bell, wire spirals - for once no lace and very little ribbon - didn't think he would appreciate it!

The image is coloured with Copics - it's ages since I did some proper colouring

And there are loads of layers to him

The background swirl is a great technique.  You die cut some double sided adhesive - peel and stick one side to your project - then peel the other side and cover with glitter.  It's quite fiddly - and  you can only do this if your surface is smooth and flat - but it looks so cool!

The die I used is a Memory Box from last year -not all that keen on Memory Box dies really - they are too fussy and the 'cutting' edge is not deep enough to cut all the detail cleanly - but this one is pretty.

It took me all day messing about - great fun.

my Christmas card this year

T finished article - trees stamped in Memento Nautical Blue - sky  Jenni Bowlin Spice Tin - you can't see the glitter on the trees.   The greeting is a Crafty Individuals one and I have put a tiny gem in the centre of the snowflake.  The top panel is matted onto either silver or blue and the ribbon wrapped round both.  Everything is flat - so I should be fine for normal post

Mini Magazine Holder

I actually made something!!!!!

I had a fairly quiet afternoon yesterday so I just started fiddling.  This is from a splitcoasters tutorial - Mini Magazine Holder.

The instructions are not very clear - she uses black card on a black table -  and she has a black jumper on!  but you can muddle if you use both the video and the text instructions.

There was no thought or planning - I just used what ever  was to hand.

I do like Splitcoaster for ideas.

Right - back to the wedding after Christmas

Christmas journal

Here is my final verse page.

The background page was a 'puddings' one - lovely rich reds and greens.  I have dabbed over it with red and green and a bit of gold just to break up the background plain brown a bit.

I am really please with the final effect - it looks really rich and ripe.

The Children were Nestled

This is as far as I have got - winding down now.

The background is spritzed with Rich Cocoa and Pear Tart Fireworks, then stamped with a Father Christmas postcard stamp in Memento Cottage Ivy (I think it's a Personal Impressions stamp).  The text is written in a bright red Pilot ink.

I haven't got the background page ready yet - I will probably just sponge it in reds and greens to match.

Saturday - T'was the Night Before Christmas Journal

Right - I have cleared the decks - the wedding order has gone out - my desk is tidy

So today I am concentrating on the shop and another verse page of my Christmas poem.  It is going to have to be fairly simple - I am really tired this week - and I have to keep stopping to serve people.

I will show you later this afternoon what I have managed.

Christmas cards

I have started to think about my own Christmas cards.  Normally I see something that sparks me off - this year I wanted to do something with ink - something trees-ie - and add a snowflake charm because I have loads of them.

I am still tinkering about - but this is the general direction

I will sow you a how to with a materials list when I get a proper grip on it - next week probably

Table names

I am sure I can share the table names that I did for the big lunch.  The event was last week so I am sure no one will mind now.

9 names all on a 12" x 12" blue card background.  The name is actually written with a chisel end Copic pen - it's the only thing I could find that would give me a think enough line that would be seen clearly across the room.  The swirls are stamped with a dark blue and the bottom right swirl is over stamped with metallic silver - silver pearl dots added - and yes - the dreaded bling!!!! - just a few gems in the swirls.

upcycled Booth's project

Finally got an afternoon to myself to do a bit of crafting.  It has been frantic busy here  - I have been working on the stationery for a formal lunch and that has taken up all my time.  I don't like having to sit to work - it's really odd for me.  It's not doing my back any good either - my chiro said it would not be good for me!

Anyway - I have been tinkering about with the first verse of my poem.

I really miss my old work space.  This shop just does not have the creative 'vibe' that my old one does  (and I don't have half my stuff here) - I will be very pleased to get back  to my own space - especially with new window that's going in the roof - it's going to be amazing

Look at my window display.

You have to see my new window display.  Dear old hubby has been making me loads of little wooden crates - they are just brilliant for display, and lovely and solid.  I can use them either way up so they are really versatile.  Now all I need to do is persuade him to make me loads more ;-)

journal day

I have lost the data lead for my camera - it's a bloomin' nuisance.  Now I have got to rely on my tablet to take photos and it's not nearly as versatile.

So today is the first day of the new up-cycle a Booths Christmas catalogue day.  I think the hardest thing about journaling like this is to relax and not worry about 'neatness' to much - the beauty of it has to be that it is something else re-used.

I have eased myself in gently by colouring over the white words on black background  and working over the centre, leaving the background pictures to show.

Wonderful fun this morning starting to put the decs up.

Journal

No proper journal page today - up to my ears in wedding favors - all these people do keep on insisting on getting married!

So a thought - and perhaps a plan - -
Have you seen the Booth's Christmas Book yet?  Talk about extravagant - no wonder their food is so expensive - I shan't be getting our joint there.

Mind you - it got me thinking.  I can't stand throwing things like that out - there has to be an up-cycling craze to be started there.  You could take the pages out and refill the cover with plain paged to make a scrapbook - you could make a fabric inner and make it into a bag - or laptop cover.

I think I will keep the pages in and work over them.  My favorite Christmas poem is The Night Before Christmas so I think I will work that into the pages.

I am not sure how I am going to do my craft work while I am in my new spot - half my personal stash is in my flat - but if I make it a writing project it will be easier to manage.

Perhaps we should start an Up-cycled Booths page on Pintrest - bet other people are thinking the same.

Vote for me in an award

Right chaps

The National craft Awards have just opened for voting.  They sell it to you like it's representative of the whole industry and they have selected the best stuff out there for you to vote for - but it's really just picked from anyone who deals with The Papercrafter and Crafts Beautiful group of magazines.  The only way to get into the system seems to be to cheat!!!!

Acting on their own advice (and it took me 3 months to track someone down to get a proper answer on this) - If I can get enough people to vote for the shop as an 'other' this year - I may make it to the short list next year.

Here is the link http://www.crafts-beautiful.com/craftawards/ - you do have to fill the whole list I am afraid - but when you get to Craft shops in the North - tick other and add The Kitten and The Goat, Kendal.

I would be grateful for any help you can give - going to be shouting out on my blog and facebook too - so please like and share - let's see if we can break the system  ;D

kitten's BIG adventure

Day 2 of the move - huge progress (Goat has the pics so have to wait for his camera) - we have got so much done.  The thing that just amazes me is - - - just - how on earth did I get all this stuff in to such a tiny little space?????

Sending out thanks to all the customers who knew about the move and came to show support and say hello - love you guys.

HUGE thanks to the lady ((and you know who you are (XX) )) who spent an hour just running back and forth with full boxes to move - - you got us sooo much further on - still catching up with what  you did today.  I can't say how grateful I am - I am so limited when it comes to the real hands on physical slog type stuff.

I think the 'stage is set' as they say - got to do loads of dressing and sorting out to do which will take me a couple of weeks gently plodding on.

Huge splash for Christmas - so you can see what we have to get the good old creative juices flowing.

Just drop by and test drive the shop layout and see how we can improve it for you
