Saturday Art DAy

Not got very far this week - it's been busy!!!

The town has been full of the 'Yarns in the Yards' storytelling - and the town has been really busy.  It is so wonderful to see the town full of people again - and all the decorations have been amazing - it's just what we needed to pick our spirits up again.  I have had the busiest week since the floods in early December - so let's all keep our fingers crossed that this is the start of the town picking up again.

All I have done is sketch out a gateway arch to frame the verse.  I am really tired now - bit hyper because it's been such a fun week.

Heeeeeer's Dragon ( or is it a lizard - no really sure

Can't settle this week - so all I have been doing is working in my album.

- his horn / toes / tail and the moon are all sparkly.
The drawing is done in Pigma Micron - and the colour is a bit of Copics - just a very light hint - you don't always have to use all the blending techniques

My wonderful little chillin' space

I love the way the summer house is looking - I think it's the best it's ever been.

I picked up a super cream/black stripy rug from Home Bargains for just £10, and painted the backboard black - and it's made so much difference.  The whole space is really calm and restful.  There are still a few bits of turquoise about from the time my old summerhouse was chocolate and turquoise - but I am not chucking out good throws and cushions for the sake of it!

I am doing a little bit more to the ceiling every weekend - it's going to be the same white with black beams - and I think I will replace the papered panels on the doors for something blacker.  I think I may have to make a cover for the knitting machine in black if I can get something from the charity shop - not sure I can live with that purple - it stands right out!

Monthly Sketch - July

You know I am struggling with these - never thought I would - after all it's not that long ago that we used to do a layout sketch every month.  Guess there is just so much going on in the kingdom this year!!!!
Here is the layout for this month -

As it is summer I thought I would keep it light and flowery - so I used the circle spots as flower embellishments - over a flower patterned backing paper for extra depth.  The paper is matted with a textured green pattern and set on a yellow (OK - sparkly/pearly) backing card.  There is loads of bling and buttons in the flower centres and speckled round the petals

It makes a really light and airy background for William - in the water as usual.

It would also make a great winter layout with snowflakes - or use all photos for a montage effect. Love

knitting Square - Caterpillar Stitch

OK - this month has fallen apart - being with out a laptop last week has totally thrown everything out of sync - and now I have to get used to the new system!!!  At least the chappie moved everything across so at least I can just start working.  I can't do videos any because the program I used is on the old laptop - and they quoted me stupid money to add it to my new machine - so that's not going to happen!!!!

so - for this month's knitted square pattern - Caterpillar Stitch - a super easy, fun stitch that adds real texture to your projects

I just wasted to fiddle about today - and there is nothing more fiddly that Celtic Knots!  I have started and I will put the verse in during the week when I am not quiet as tired.  Can't wait for my lie in tomorrow!!!!

Late Day off

I finally wore out the old goat's lap top - so I have been without a computer all weekend - gosh it's amazing how much you miss it!!!  I am way behind with all my scheduled work and it will take me a couple of days to catch up as I have a couple of orders to get out as well.

Huge thanks to the lovely chap in PC World Kendal who helped me choose a new one.  And the best bit - he is going to transfer all the stuff that is on the old one to the new one - set up all the programs the same so it's ready for me to just work and not spend 2 weeks hissing and spitting and cussing cos I can't get it the same.  That's what always puts me off new technology - they say it's so easy - and it's not.  Well - not for me!

Saturday Art Day

I had a commissions to do first this morning - for a lady who has just lost her tortoise.  I have tried to keep it muted - but I did not want it to be sad.  Very subtle, muted colouring - bit of bling on the rose and the spots - and gold mirri board mounting.

And this afternoon I am starting on a 'time' page.  As in - the devil steels it all away for his bad purposes!  But I am tired now - so I just may leave it to finish next week.

Kit of the month - Cutlery holders

Who sneaked in July??  Not nearly ready for half the year to be gone - plus it's so chilly I have started on the dogs' winter knitting- and the weather forecast was saying there would be a grass frost!!!!!  The workshop I want to on Monday was about business and climate change - they said - long - dry summers - yeah - waiting for that one ;-)

Anyway to celebrate the long - dry - hot summer (soz - I plan these a couple of months ahead - and it was hot then) - the month's kits are to make a couple of really pretty cutlery holders.  The kit has enough materials to make 2 co-ordinating pouches - and the patterns.  Once you know how to create them - you could make them to match your picnic set - or dining table for a posh dinner setting

Saturday Art Day

You all know I have a bit of a thing for dragons - so could not resist this double spread.

He was drawn with a Copic fine line brush - then painted with my Gansai watercolours.  There is a couple of bit of text still to do - and a bit of detail doodling - but I am tired and I want to start fresh to it.

I use my watercolour paints a bit differently - I use them with a waterbrush straight off the block. Gansai are more like a gel than the hard brick like pans that you normally get - and you can pick up little bits of colour directly with a wet brush and blend straight onto the paper.  As the paint is less wet than normal you can control the way the paint colours fade into each other much more than you can than with a wash.

Plus I have the full set of Gansai - so the spine and wings are the most glorious metallic glittery effect.

The large set is nearly half price on Amazon at the moment - so I will share the link if you fancy a set.
