Dog Show Photos

Can you believe this weather??  It was freezing out on the showground last weekend - can't say I am dashing about achieving anything much - just finishing unpacking and sorting.

Found a few pics from Sunday - it was bright in the morning- it very windy and cold.

First dog of the day get's his picture done - that's my William sitting on his blanket in the sun.

It was really busy - never seen all the outer fields full of people camping over - and as for the scenery - the views are stunning.

Before the dogs get to run the course - the humans have to work out how they are going to do it.

The 'weave' - just about everyone messed this up to day

The forecast all week is pretty dreadful so I do feel for the guys trying to qualify for Cruft's.

Very rare sight

Now - this is something that you only ever see a couple of times a year - my work table is clear.  I am pretty much up with all the dog stuff as I worked like crazy to get everything ready for the show this week.

It won't stay clear for long - I have some seriously gorgeous embroidered green brocade that is going to become martingale collars and harnesses - might even do a lead or 2 to match.

Perfectly yummie!!!!

Saturday Art Day

I am not good at Blackwork Lettering.  I naturally have a rounded flick to my hand that I struggle to prevent - that's why I love Uncial work and the more round forms.

But for today - I am battling my demons

I have left the page totally plain so I did not get distracted - and I practised each line several times before I put it in the book.  I still made a few mistakes and it's great to be getting back into the swing of it.

Workshop - Studio Room

OK my lovelies - this is what I have been up to the past 6 weeks.

This room is 15' x 20' - and was a total disaster.  It was full of all the rubbish that the guys had had since Christmas - yes - really!!!  You could not walk across the room - and the floor was totally covered in boxes and junk.

I have stripped and refinished the walls - so many layers of wall paper - and in one area they had covered the walls in sticky back plastic sheets?  I have filled all the gaps and repainted the walls in plain white (about 4 coats).

The ceiling was a complete mess - it had just been left after the roof flooded about 10 years ago - and looks as if it was going to fall down any minute.  I have stripped off the top layer of plaster and cleaned up the cracks - then papered over the whole thing.  Trust me - after the battering I have given it - it is totally sound even if it is a bit bumpy.

One of the beams is original - so I painted the window frames and sills - the doors ( one doe not actually go anywhere but I thought an exposed door was note fun that the hardboard the was so obviously covering it up - all in a mat satin black to match.  I have painted the skirting board the same height all the way round the room - even though it is missing on one and a half sides - just thought it looked neater.

The floor has been washed - and washed - and washed.  I have de-nailed it - and the joiner is going to patch up the gap and the loose boards.

I have painted out all the toilet ares - put down a bit of lino - scrubbed the floor in there and repaired the walls.

I am dead chuffed with myself - it looks amazing.  The light and atmosphere are wonderful - and there is so much space.

We have had a couple of enquiries - but as of now it is still available on a monthly rolling let.  It will be a fantastic studio / workshop space for someone just starting out.

Monthly Sketch - June

I am struggling to do the monthly videos - so I am moving the sketch to the 3rd Tuesday and having a gap at the end of the month.

I love summer - makes me go totally over the top with patterns and colour - ok - ok - so I always do anyway ;-)

This sketch is a perfect excuse to use up all sorts of odds and ends - why not make one of the segments out of fabric or felt for a totally different look.

I have taken huge liberties with this work up - just to show you that a sketch can just be the jumping off point - and you can interpret it any which way you like.

This is a photo taken at one of my favourate places - not big and fancy - just somewhere I love

Saturday Art Day

It has been a very slow couple of days in the shop - so I got my cover done.  Totally over the top on the metallic bling - like you do.  I so want to stencil with my coffee stain design over the top .

Then I did a new page.

I am letting it dry well before I erase the guide lines - yeah - been there too often ;-)

I am desperate to try one of the painted pages - but I am breaking my self in slowly!

Monthly knitted square - Pique Stitch

The Square Collection РPiqu̩ Stitch

The idea behind this series is to expand your knowledge and build your confidence by tackling new techniques with small, simple projects.  Each square knits up to the same size and has the same border frame so that you can sew them together and make larger projects.  4 sewn in a square make the front of a cushion (works up to fit a 16” square cushion pad – which we stock in the shop) – back with another 4 squares or plain fabric.  Several in a row will make a scarf – 3 x 3 or 4 will make a baby blanket – 4 x 6 or 8 will make a lap throw - or go the whole hog and make a bed throw.  You can make each square the same pattern – you can make each square different – you can create your own design by placing the squares in a pattern – knit in 1 colour – knit the rainbow - just experiment – shout me if you get stuck – and have fun.

You will need;
Double knitting or chunky weight yarn – 20g

I use Robin double knitting 100% acrylic yarn for all my knitting work.  If you are using pure wool, or a wool mix you will need more as the yarn is heavier.

Disclaimer: This is my own original work.  Use it for your own use or for charity selling.  Use it to inspire you, and to lead you on to other projects.  But, please do not resell the pattern as your own workings.  It takes me years of learning, and months of work to produce a final pattern.

Saturday Art Day

Going back to my roots!!

Things are beginning to settle and I am finally getting a bit of clear space in my head to do some art of my own.  So I am going back to my calligraphy roots.  I have treated myself to one of Dyan Reavley's big journals and I am going to copy the Book of Shadows from the tv show Charmed.  I love the series - and the book fascinates me - so I though I would give it a go.  Back to proper scribing where I feel safe and comfortable.

It has been quite a busy day - so I haven't got very far - but that's ok - this is a long patient, time taking task - and it's been wonderful to be a bit busy again.

I shall do a lot more fiddling about before  am done - and it might be next Saturday before I am finished as I have a big wedding to get out in the week.

Saturday Art Day

I have worked my little socks off this week refurbishing the studio room at my son's shop - should have some pics next week - one more big push and I am done.

I am having a rest day to day - not doing anything extra tonight - just going home and chilling with the pooch.

Keeping things simple for my poor little fried brain ;-) I made a few more cards for the dog show coming up soon.
