EASTER PROJECT

The second station is when Jesus is given the cross to carry

I don't have many stamps as you know, but I wanted to stamp the word
SSSOOOOO
I stuck some old chipboard letters onto an acrylic block so I could see the word - then I used the black paint dabber to put paint on to the back of the letters - and stamped it
How cool is that?

EASTER PROJECT

I have something to show you - now it is very different from anything I have done before. I wanted to do something really different as a larger project to learn all the Tim Holtz techniques. So I thought I would do his '12 tags Of Christmas' - as 'The Stations Of The Cross' for Easter. There are 15 Stations that follow the Easter story so I should get lots of practice.

This is the first one:- the trial of Jesus where he is condemed to death. The background is inked with blues, and browns, with rub-on swirls.

The tags are 2 1/2" x 5 1/2" and I am going to treat them all as seperate things rather than try to co-ordinate them. I am still feeling my way about at the moment. I love the delicate mix of colours you get - tiny little flakes all twisted together. This is my 3rd attempt at this one. The 1st one all curled up - you really need quite a heavy card to start with. The 2nd one I let my pencil roll onto when it was still wet with the crackle paint and pulled off a big chunk of the surface.

you can get all Tim's tag details here http://timholtz.typepad.com/my_weblog/12-tags-of-christmas-2009/

NEW CARD

I have been to class today
- now, another lesson in not to take things as a whole

- last time we cut a chunk out of a circle to make a shape to sit in the corner

- now let's just emboss a small bit of the embossing folder!

- The owl folder is just gorgeous - I love it - several people in class had got it and not used it because they do not know what to do with it. (Do it on dark coloured, patterned paper and sand it through - yummy ) - or cut a circle (square/oval) and just emboss the owl. Ink the owl and branch with brown and green and heat emboss with clear embossing powders.

For real killing power - add goggle eyes!!!!

NEW IDEA

I so desperatly wanted to get the Tim Holtz case for my Distress ink pads. They stopped making the storage tin range about 15 months ago. I have managed to find all the others, but the ink pad one is not to be had anywhere. If you know of any - drop me a line

well - I had to have something to keep them in - so I made one.

Dead chuffed with it

Made the small boxes seperatly - then stuck them together and framed the whole thing with card and covered with scrapbook paper. Then I gave the insides several coats of paint. This method is a bit of a fiddle, but it really does make a good strong box. I used the same method for my copic storage

NEW CARD

Restored 3,500 images/photos - so glad to have it all back - all I have to do now - - - sort out the filing system and get them in the correct place.

Just wanted to colour today - so I drew a couple of my kitten images and painted them with H2Os (I was so lucky last year - when they said they were going to stop making H2Os, I got 2 big sets at 40% off - and the exchange rate was really good at the time - so now I can use 8 shades of a colour and I just LOVE it!)

OK - one in blue (that's new)

and the other as a tabby

- i'n't live wonderful?

Don't know if I can recover it all - but thank heavens I did back up with Norton. That's got to be the moral of the tale girls - back up - back up!!

AT LAST - I can settle to work again

Going to start a new monthly range for gemstones.

This is all hand done - the base card was sprayed with Ranger Colour wash in red and sponged with Ranger Gold paint dabber. The background paper is an Indian handmade paper with a red flock. AND the gem - - - all mine - I drew and coloured it (Copics- what else) - so chuffed with my self. Oh - the stripe bit is a scrap of ribbon.

life

I have just soooo many things to catch you up with - I have just about reloaded all my programs - and reset all my pass words for stuff. Almost got my E Mail back as 'normal ' (IF YOU HAVE TRIED TO TALK TO ME THIS PAST WEEK - SORRY - PROD ME AGAIN!!). website is set up again - and twitter / facebook - can you believe how much we use these days
I have to say as a side line - this has really knocked my confidence. I have been 'tinkering' with computers for the past 20 years (yes - gosh - that long) used to work in DOSS - when 'colour' was green or orange (guess you had to be there :-) ) - I used to work in ASSKI (yeah - I know - WHAT!!!) - I have always kept right up to date - done all the newest installs - taken programs to their limit and inside out to make them do what I want them to - played with gadgets and templates etc etc etc
- all I did was to install a (real, bonefide) update - and the whole lot crunched.
- time to say - enough - mental block - no more - I just can't keep up
Just hoping the 'back up' on Norton REALLY is a back up!!!!

NEW IDEA

After much consideration about what I was going to do with work/study this next year I have finally decided
  • I really need to get back to my inks - real ink - all wet and slushy - yum
  • Copics - need to get further along that path - piles of ink you can blend and mix - how new is that game? - you have to remember I have had it drummed into me - mixed inks cross contaminate - result - muddy puddle
  • I want to get back to drawing more - who needs to spend money on stamps? - there are loads of images I could just draw - equally as good the images on the stamps - confidence girl that's all we need
  • Backgrounds - I want to use more Artist's background papers - more doodling - more experimenting, that's what's called for
  • I want to get into the Tim Holtz range more - and see just what his inks can do - I am so desperate to see how the react in a pen. I really am hoping that the alcohol inks are strong enough to write with
  • Patterned paper - going more towards the 12" sheets now - you can pick up much better quality - with added accents - and inked over
Basically - back to my roots - lots of yummy, runny, squishy, hands on stuff

NEW CARD

Here's a new idea for you - add an extra dimension to your background paper
- scrunch up a piece of patterned paper - lots of lovely creases (the more the better)
- flatten out with your hand
- brush over with an ink pad to highlight the crease lines - as much as you like
- then iron flat (I use my hair straighteners - much easier!!)
- stick on your project

NEW IDEA

I have been to craft class today.

I do love going to class - it's becoming so different from the stuff I am working on at home.

The image is a stamp (Penny Black - of course - their botanicals are the bast ever) - inked, clear embossed - (I can so draw that). BUT - check out the corner detail with the text on - how cool is that. Fantastic new idea

The shaped outer is a nestibilies - center cut with a Fiskar's shape cutter (but any circle cutter will do) - then cut a chunk out to fit into the corner - So simple - so effective

They just all went together so well

NEW BOOKS

Last years Spring Daisy and Dandelion papers had 4 pages that had just the characters on and were crying out to be used as a whole page design. So - enter my new Bind It All. It is still a very 'hands on' tool. You have to work out the spacing along the hinge side for every book (and get it in the same place every time!) - and then, I quite like the 2 blocks of 6 rings - which needs more planning. Not fully got it sorted yet, but I am really pleased with it

NEW CARD

It's such a joy to have moved away from Christmas stuff. Thinking about Valentine's Day - spring - and probable a few get well to top up the shop stock.

This is an artist's background paper
- variation on the brayer background
http://www.princesskitten.co.uk/design_35998.html

The heart charm is hand made too - draw a heart shape - I added a sequin in the centre, a few squiggles and a few beads - then cover thickly with Anita's 3D and leave over night to dry. When the 3D is totally dry - wigggle and bend the paper to crack the glaze - then drop a bit of alcohol inks to run through the cracks a bit.

So cool

Can't want for my Distress Crackle Paints to arrive to see how they work

NEW CARD

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL

This is my first real try at using Tim Holts's inking techniques.

The map is a huge stamp I picked up for half price. I just saw it and loved it - don't usually get that keen on a stamp. I stamped and embossed with copper, tore the edges - then inked over with a tan ink to get that parchment effect.

The background card has been inked up too
