Art show

We had a super day at Art-on-the-Prom - Grange-over-sands on Sunday.  We were so lucky with the weather - there were a couple of very close calls in the morning when the rain tried to spot down - but luckily it all passed over - and after lunch the skies cleared - and it was a wonderful afternoon.  

It's amazing the difference a bit of sun makes ;-) .  there were loads of people about browsing all the stalls and buying!!!! - which is what we like best. 

Met up with several friends that had missed the past month - and found a couple of new guys that had said they were going to come and finally made it - check out Angry Dog Boutique - handmade dog coats - but very different from our Izzy's jumpers - - and met a fantastic lady that makes handbags and purses.  She has a stall next to my son in the indoor market at the Westmoreland Shopping Centre - just on a Wednesday - I have seen her work a couple of times - and I just have to give in - I have to have one - I love them - and I NEVER buy stuff for myself!!!!

 I have to admit that Sunday was the best day of the week, last week in takings - it was so quiet in the town.  It's a cold hard fact these days - that I have to pay the rent!

oooh dear - despite the lovely days I have at Grange - I am not sure if I can keep it up.  I do find there is a huge physical price to pay - and even though this time it was warm and sunny - it is still taking it's toll on my health.  Monday was a total write off - and my pain levels are still off through the roof.  I have started back on the Guaifenesin after a break to take the herbal route for my 'night sweats' (which was a huge success) - but it does mean that I have to get used to it again - so I know I will be extra fragile this week.  normally I renew my next years subs for Grange as soon as the year finishes - this year I am not going to renew this year - I am going to wait until next March and see how all things are going in the shop.

very pretty stuff

I bought some wall paper - no - no - listen - you are going to LOVE this pattern

Just how wonderful is this - and dead cheap!!! - On line from Homebase - £12.50 a roll!!! - they delivered to theie shop and I collected if all for free too.

It's going to be a big project this one.  Although I only need 2 rolls - it's for the long wall in my kitchen that is a bit of a mess.  There are a couple of switches that are not connected to anything - and a grotty old row of tiles that has to come off.  I want to refinish the whole wall - paint it in the same coral that I used for the front porch - and put a couple of strips of wallpaper in the middle where my little breakfast table is.

Not for a bit yet though - I must get all my other projects up to date first ;-)

new project

I am trying to research the official coat of arms for Kendal - I thought I could get some fridge magnet and key rings - perhaps tea towels made up with the goat's artwork based on the coat of arms, a sheep dog and a sheep or two.

I had the idea that it would be easy to find the original approved image that we could refer to - well everything is on line isn't is.  Failing miserably here!  I have found a really horrid 'modern' take of it (sorry town hall - but it is really horrid) - and  a carved shield - which is very pretty - but no use for colour reference.

BUT I DID FIND A REALLY CURE PONY SWIMMING - no idea why that comes up in a search for Kendal coat of Arms - but there you go.

New shoes

It has been completely dead in the town all week - no  - not surprising.  I think my son has done more than me this week - don't tell him - I will never hear the last of it.

Here he is working his stall in the indoor market.

I treated myself to some new sandals for the summer.  I don't think I have worn sandals for a couple of years - and I have't bought any for about 5 years.

New project

I have signed up for a new course with My Creative Classroom in 'Altered Spoons'.  I have wanted to try this for ages and I thought it would give me something to spring board off from.  I know i don't have the time - but it's only a short one - and  you get all the teaching materials to keep and work again later - so it does not matter that I don't do it when I should.

I went to the Age UK warehouse and got a handful of really pretty handled spoons for £1.  Age UK warehouse - my fave place in the whole wide world (well - there and Homebase).  You can keep all your fancy boutiques - I love a second hand warehouse to rummage through.

OK - so this is my first effort - no theme or design to it really - just wanted to get the feel of holding and decorating the spoon first.

Now I have a need for more spoons!

OK - I have job for you all!

when you see me in Homebase eyeing up the paint colours.

(((- I thought the front porch was looking a bit 'bland' and boring.  And - on my 'getting rid of the overpainted wallpaper' kick - I thought I would do that and then add a bit of warmth into it. 

 I had a small pot of Terracotta paint - and I added what was left of the Bright Orange pot, along with the odd bit of (whatever it was called) Dark Red stuff - great mix to - what shall we call it -  'Warm Coral' colour.

Smart!

mind you - since then the weather has kicked in - and it has got clear and hot - so I am thinking - perhaps a lime green ? ? )))

Yeah - that's just it - I spent all the evenings last week va-va-voomimg my front porch - what I should have been doing is getting the Nellie-Ellie kit ready for you - and finishing the lace jumper pattern - and getting the button boxes made up - and - - .


- So - next time you catch me in Homebase looking at the paint - just gently lead me away.

And if I slip through and make it towards the checkout with a paint tin- take me by the hand and take me to the nearest pub - buy me a glass of wine and say

 - - STEP AWAY FROM THE PAINT CHARTS HUNI!

yikes - who stole last week!!!!

I had 2 huge orders come into the shop last week.  The kiddies felt and foam model kits that you all loved are all back in stock - along with some super paper mache shape kits - dog - owl - japanese doll - for a bigger project.

The the monthly yarn / craft suppliers order came in - - -yikes guys - - did you really get through that much yarn last month!!!  The baby pink came in - and then went out (the whole lot) in about 2 hours.  All the Violet has also gone - BUT - and this is huge - I have managed to get

 - that pretty Emerald that ran out after Christmas - and a wonderful Royal Blue (been trying for months - and 'THAT' baby is due sooooo soon)



I have a huge wedding order to get out this week - with name tags.  It is so hard to scribe in this weather - the ink dries out on the corners of the nib before I can get it onto the paper - that's fun!

I have a 'helper' for the summer - a darling little girl, just finished 6th form, wanted something to do for the summer hols before starting to do an Art and Design course at college in the Autumn.  She volunteered to help out in the shop over the summer break doing anything I need to get some experience - just how do you say 'no' to that!  It will be such a help - and a whole new outlook for me - I love someone giving me a new view of things.

Right - are we all ready for a glorious week - and a chance to do new things!

Life

I have been doing a bit of decorating in my flat lately - well - not done anything for months.  I think I scared myself.  I get restless every so often as the flat has no outside area at all.  2 steps up off the pavement and you are in the little porch area that I have just painted - and I do miss a garde.  Well - not even a garden really - just a bit of outside space to sit with a little table and hang a bit of washing out.  Anyway - I actually went and looked at another property the other week.  Loved it - serious 'doer - upper' - but what the heck - I can do all that.  But then they said that garden did not come with it - it was owned by the council and you could not do anything to it.  With 2 whacking great conifer trees just about 6' from the end corner - I just laughed at them - noooooo chance!

Anyway - I thought I would fluff my little nest a bit and get round to some more of the bigger jobs that need doing.  It won't be long before it's snowing again and I will be so greatful to be there.

I needed to replace the dimmer switches - they don't dim any more with the new light bulbs - and one of them was broken anyway. It's OK - I do know what I am doing - I don't have the physical strength anymore - but dad taught me all the diy stuff.

So I put in a new light switch - could I resist picking at the wall paper!!!!!  - that's a 'no' then ;-)

I did restrain myself and just over paint it quick though.

pretty flowers

Where does the time go!!!  Huge thanks to all my wonderful customers who have kept me busy and on my toes - much appreciated guys.

The weather has been lovely here - just right for pottering about the town and exploring - even Henry and I have been to the park a couple of times.

There is a new knitting pattern available to download.  There is also a kit in the shop with everything you need to make the slippers - can't post it I am afraid - the postage is just too much these days.

I have put my pretty flowers out at the front - and - guess what? - no weeding!!!

I tried out some spray glitter on them - now the whole kitchen smell of glitter spray.  Don't you just love being a crafter?

NEW KIT

Finally - I have finished the heart hanger kit.

Designing the project is the easy bit.

Then you ahve to get the contents sorted out - that's quite fun

Then I have to write up all the lesson plan - and set out the photos - and that's the bit that takes me forever.
This one is ready - and there is a distress notebook and a sewn notebook cover on the way.

new books

I don't know about you - but I am back in long sleeves and a jumper today!

I am having a general tidy up week.  Getting all those little piles that 'I am going to get around to' finished - get my desks and tables cleared - you never know - I may get my dining table back.

So this is a little pile of books that I had started and just needed finishing off.

I love making books.  These are made from board covers cut to 4" square so that a 6" paper covers it perfectly.  It pays to use every part of your paper stack - the 2 on the left are actually covered with the front covers of the 12" Bon Voyage and Steampunk look pads from January.  And I got to have a good old root around in the ribbons scraps and use  lot of them up.
