Doodling

One thing I have discovered about doodling - more is better.  You can keep going back and adding white over black - black over white - black over colour - colour over white - and it just gets better and better

So this is the back page of y set - and it's sort of finished for now - but may get more later

Every time I have to stand at my bench I do half an hour more adding swirls and lines - but I am being really strict and keeping to black - white - and the Stardust gold gel pen - yummie.

wow - 2 weeks in a row I have managed to get my journal page done.  You can't imagine what a relief it is to be getting a bit more organised and 'normal'.  It is very quiet in the town after the floods - the devastation is heartbreaking.  Having been living with being flooded for the past couple of years I can appreciate how they must be feeling - at least I could go home after clearing up the mess!

For my journal page today I cracked open a Spellbinders die that I picked up in the summer and had not got round to using - love it.

Cumbria flooding

Events have overtaken us.  There have been huge storms and floods in the town and Kendal is still pretty much cut off.  We are all ok - the house is at the top of the valley side - Ben is in the flat which is high up - and both the shops are fine.

The town is a mess - it is going to take ages to get the streets up back to normal - huge areas have been flooded - the roads are damaged - and the river kent is a raging torrent.

I don't know if I will be able to get into town tomorrow - the estate is still cut off.  Ben should be open - he is just round the corner anyway.

I am so glad I nagged and nagged and got the roof covered - otherwise I would not have a shop now.  Seriously I would be out of business - the insurance would have covered any damages as it is an ongoing maintenance problem - and I am just not strong enough to start all over again this year!

The forecast for the coming week is for more rain - so we are just going to have to muddle along together and do the best we can.

I may or may not be open tomorrow - I will keep updating my facebook pages when I know what's happening.

The weather is scary out there - the River Kent is about to overflow and there are loads of roads closed already.  With 10 more days of wet weather forecast - it's a pretty dismal start to December.

So - thinking that I am going to be quiet and will have lots of time to fiddle about - I am working on a 4 page design on a Art Deco type theme in black and gold stardust

Here is the start of it - I have cut and shaped the edges of 3 pages and started the doodling.  No game plan - just fiddling about ;-)

Christmas Pudding hats

The puddings are back!!!

There are 4 sizes now - from birth right up to the big, baggy style that is popular now.  I have tweaked the pattern a bit - so those of you that bought the pattern last year and would like to swop it for the new re-wright - just pop into the shop with your old pattern and I will exchange it for the new one.  I got the first baby size a bit off - but it's fine now.  This pattern represents about 8 months worth of work with all the different sizes - and it is still only £2.

I just want to say  HUGE thanks to my customer that gifted me several balls of different brown yarns.  She remembered how I struggled to get the colours I needed last winter and dropped in 4 balls to get me going this year - and would not let me reimburse her.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I will also be knitting a couple of tea cosies once I have make 4 of each size hat.

Saturday work

I did start a journal page yesterday.  Decided to do a 'painterly' one - not the best option on a cold damp day - it's taking ages to dry between layers.

I will post it in the week when I get finished.

The BEST news of the week - the roof is holding.  They have not repaired it - it is still covered in tarpaulins and sandbags - but I don't care - as long as the wet stays out.

Gifts for Christmas

Well my lovelies - it's all happening now.  christmas is a-coming!  The shop is as stocked as it's going to be - and I have finished all the shopping.

Here is a quick little roundup of what I have been organising for you all.  I have tried to find you a wide selection of different kits for all ages and all crafts - that is a little bit different from anything else.

All your yarn craft needs are covered - with our own knitting, crochet and French knitting starter kits - as well as The Craft Factory First Kits for girls knitting and crochet.  Plus our own knitting and crochet project kits.  There are a few larger kits of our own - bit more of a challenge for those with a bit of practice (full backup and advice is always on hand from me).  And I have added a few needle felting kits this year - for those who have been experimenting with this.

Sewing has really stepped up this year - we now have a few of our own sewing project kits - and my new fabric supplier continues to wow us with his choices - did you catch the Tartan range - or the Dinosaurs?  The tartan went out soooo fast.  He has sent us some simple cushions and apron projects for those of you just starting out with your sewing machines along with a couple of bigger patchwork kits.  Sewing boxes - let's talk sewing boxes - such great value - I picked these up in the big Groves sale for you - and as always - if I get a good deal - I pass it straight on to you guys.  I don't pad my prices so I can offer big discounts - you get solid value ALL the time xx.  Only here in the shop - these never manage to get listed on line.

Still on the sewing theme - I have finally found you some tapestry kits.  Seriously - there is so little out there - unless you want to spend £50/£60+++.  I have found you a range that uses thick cottons instead of 100% wool at much better prices.  I have loads of starter kits for the kiddies - as well as some larger, harder kits for the 'biggies'.  There are still some Fat Cat kits - boys and girls beginners - and a few bigger ones - not sure if I will continue these through next year.  Nothing wrong with them - they are great - you just need new stuff.

As for the 'other' ideas - there are a couple of soap kits - still some paper mache dolls - couple of airfix sailing ships - few wood slot together figures - painting Russian doll kits - managed to get you some dream weaver kits this year.  I have added stamping and inking starter kits to our own project range - perfect if you want a taster or something a bit different.

Or - create a gift bag of your own.  My own range of handmade gift bags are available - free if you spend over £15 - or £2.50 / £3.50 / £4.50 depends on size if you just want a bag to make up your own themed bag.  Add a few fat quarters - lace / ribbon bundles - reels of thread - pins - tape measure - buttons - for a perfect sewing gift - - - or go for ink pads - patterned papers - embellishments - to make a paper crafting goodie bag - - - or - and this is new - add all sorts of beads / jewellery findings / tools / stringing equipment - and make up a jewellery making goodie bag.

There are loads of little pretties to add as stocking fillers - glitters - gems - kits - papers - ribbons - lace - Robin yarn - crochet hooks  - knitting needles - paint - ink pads - Decoupatch figures and papers.

I have topped up on the basics - loads of double sided tape - pva glue - foam raisers - glitter glue - heat embossing powders - A4 / 12" card stock - card blanks - paints - gems - embellishments - die cutting - embossing folders - chipboard shapes - 6" / 12" scrapbook papers - felt squares - beads.

Raining!!!!!!!!

Right - I am open today. 

The police advice is don't travel unless you really need to, but I have just walked round the corner from my flat and I have tons to do. I am just starting to get organised again after the last flood - just beginning to get the work tops clear and things done - planning for the day. Every time I have got this far in the last few weeks the roof has leaked - so just wish me luck.

I haven't put much out the front - so you will have to excuse the pickle inside - and I do have a few jobs in the town to do this morning.

Henry has been very brave and faced the rain. He did ask if he really, really had too - but I told him he wasn't getting a day off just because it was raining and everyone would expect to see him.

Posh Dog harness

I lovemaking the new Posh Dog harnesses.  I love choosing the fabric - finding a matching ribbon - co-ordinating a bias binding - and cutting out the lovely soft, fluffy lining - and I have created a simple step guide for myself so they are really fun to sew up.  I am quite pleased with myself - this pattern came together fairly easily without any big battles to get the design right.

When the last fabric delivery arrives there was some super cut dinosaur pattern fat quarter fabrics in different colours - and I finally got to make a harness up in it.

This is just adorable.
