Personal Impressions - new Card-io Stamps

SQUEAKS AND SQUEALS - I got new toys.

cough - cough - that would be professional tools and equipment then ;-)

These are Card-io stamps - first time I have seen them - kind of on the scene building idea I think really - they look great fun.  Love the trees - of course - love the scarecrow - and all the flowers - and love that you can mix and match between the sets - great idea.

We will have to see what mischief I can get up too!

opps - the wall paper fell off

Now - I know I am going to regret starting this - and you will probably tell me off - - but - I have started re-decorating the living room.

It has so many layers of paper and paint that that you can see all the seams and borders - and it has bugged me for years.  This is the last time I will be able to tackle a big room like this - strip everything off and prep the walls properly - and it will probably take me 18 months.  Aiming to get this one wall done before Christmas this year - and everything else done for Christmas next year.  Just going to plod along slowly doing half an hour as a time - and this is the first half hour.  That wallpapers stripper is wonderful!

up-cycled baking tary

I have hung on to a few of my mum's old baking trays for years now - not really sure why - except they were hers and I remember her using then all of my life.

They would be from late 1940 - early 1950 - so they were a bit 'crusty'.  I gave them a good old soak in oven cleaner and they came up looking amazing.

Then I gave then a spray with 'Antique Iron' spray paint (Home Base) and made a compartment tray for my jewellery.  Keeps them neat and tidy - and the earrings in pairs.

Gelatos today

It has been a disastrous week financially - the town has been so quiet everyone is moaning.  I had treated myself to the new Tim Holtz crayons - but I thought I had better re-sell them quick to raise a bit of money.  so I got to look at them in the packet - and now they are gone ;-(.  To make up I promised myself that I would play with my Gelatos today to make up for it.  Very similar to the new Tin Holtz Crayons really - so I hadden't NEEDED them, and I don't do nearly enough with my Gelatos - so at least I get to use them now!

It's quite small - little bit bigger than a tag.

and a sneaky other - that's me finished for the day

Copic Work

Just a little quickie popping in to share a display I did for the card stand.  I did a bit of graffiti scribble and went mad with the Copics.  The tones and shading are so pretty in the flesh (yeah - ok - and the glitter) - I so must get back to doing more copic work - I keep promising myself!

Knitting Madness

This is the current state of the summerhouse.  Not quite sure what I have got myself into here!!! - I have all these boxes and boxes of - - 'em - stuff - not even the person that gave it all to me knows what it all is.  There are 3 knitting machines - 2 ribbers - some sort of finishing machine - lace carriages - loads of extra parts in little boxes - goodness only knows what the 2 big extra beds of knitting pins are for.

There are loads of books and patterns and a couple of boxes of yarn cones - and of course I had goold old YouTube.  I managed to get one of the machines set up ok - and followed the instructions.  I  have learnt one way to cast on - and I have managed to do a bit of plain knitting.  I haven't learn't how to cast off yet - there seem to be a couple of extra thingies for that.

Yes - it is perched on my way too small side table in the summer house.  The old goat was pottering about in the garden making me a proper knitting table to use.  Knitting tables are narrow, long - and quite low as you work just above lap height - not as high up as a work table.

I don't know if I will ever get good enough to do all the fancy lace work pattern books - or the books with all the pictures in - but if I can manage a few plain strips I can make blankets and big dog coats.  I have a range and look in mind for that, and I will aim to have a few picture coats next Christmas.

I will keep you up to date as I progress - anyone out there that can use a knitting machine - all advice would be VERY welcome.

Square of the month - Basket weave

This month's square is a very simple but effective pattern called Basket weave.  It combines your simple knit and purl stitch to create a woven effect.
The idea behind this series is to expand your knowledge and build your confidence by tackling new techniques with small, simple projects.  Each square knits up to the same size and has the same border frame so that you can sew them together and make larger projects.  4 sewn in a square make the front of a cushion (works up to fit a 16” square cushion pad – which we stock in the shop) – back with another 4 squares or plain fabric.  Several in a row will make a scarf – 3 x 3 or 4 will make a baby blanket – 4 x 6 or 8 will make a lap throw - or go the whole hog and make a bed throw.  You can make each square the same pattern – you can make each square different – you can create your own design by placing the squares in a pattern – knit in 1 colour – knit the rainbow - just experiment – shout me if you get stuck – and have fun.

You will need;
Double knitting or chunky weight yarn – 20g
6mm knitting needles

·         If you are using the double knitting weight of yarn, then use 2 strands together throughout.
·         If you are using the chunky weight of yarn, then use 1 strand throughout.
·         Don’t forget to count the rows as you work up the square.

Cast on 29 stitches.
Row 1: *(knit 1, purl 1) – repeat from * to last stitch, knit 1.
Row 2: *(purl 1, knit 1) – repeat from * to last stitch, purl 1.
Row 3: *(knit 1, purl 1) – repeat from * to last stitch, knit 1.
Row 4: *(purl 1, knit 1) – repeat from * to last stitch, purl 1.

Row 5: knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 3 *(purl 3, knit 3) – repeat from * to last 4 stitches, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1.
Row 6: purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 3 *(knit 3, purl 3) - repeat from * to last 4 stitches, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
Row 7: knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 3 *(purl 3, knit 3) – repeat from * to last 4 stitches, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1.
Row 8: purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 3 *(knit 3, purl 3) - repeat from * to last 4 stitches, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.

Row 9: purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 3 *(knit 3, purl 3) - repeat from * to last 4 stitches, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
Row 10: knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 3 *(purl 3, knit 3) – repeat from * to last 4 stitches, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1.
Row 11: purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 3 *(knit 3, purl 3) - repeat from * to last 4 stitches, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
Row 12: knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 3 *(purl 3, knit 3) – repeat from * to last 4 stitches, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1.
Rows 5: through to 12: (8 rows) form the pattern.  Repeat 2 more complete sets of pattern.

Row 29: *(knit 1, purl 1) – repeat from * to last stitch, knit 1.
Row 30: *(purl 1, knit 1) – repeat from * to last stitch, purl 1.
Row 31: *(knit 1, purl 1) – repeat from * to last stitch, knit 1.
Row 32: *(purl 1, knit 1) – repeat from * to last stitch, purl 1.
Cast off.

I use Robin double knitting 100% acrylic yarn for all my knitting work.  If you are using pure wool, or a wool mix you will need more as the yarn is heavier.  Disclaimer: This is my own original work.  Use it for your own use or for charity selling.  Use it to inspire you, and to lead you on to other projects.  But, please do not resell the pattern as your own workings.  It takes me years of learning, and months of work to produce a final pattern.

one last show pickkie

Just had to share one last pic from the show.  I like to think I am a decent knitter - this was just soooo cool.

New Jewellery supplier

OK - I have FINALLY decided on who we are going to go with as our new jewellery supplier - HUGE apologies for taking so long - but I wanted to get the widest range available and the best prices for you!

There was a noticeable lack of jewellery making suppliers at the Stitches show - which means this whole section has 'gone underground' - ie - it's not selling well on Create and Craft ;-) .  That's fine by me - it means I can shop really well for you.  I know this is an area that you all want - so I am happy to expand the range of threading materials - wires - tools - and general findings.

We will be going with Creative Beadcraft.

If there is something in particular you would like me to pick up - please - please - please - just let me know.  My new suppliers usually do things in singles - just let me check and get you a price.  A very limited range of findings are now available in Sterling Silver - but they are too pricy for me to keep in stock unless enough of you are buying them - but I can get then to pre-paid special order if you would like me too.

This year the jewellery making section in the shop is going to grow - and it is all lead by you makers out there - get involved and tell me what  you need.
