I have been making Artist's background paper for an order for gift voucher cards.




Basically Artist's paper are layers of colour in different techniques. This is 3 oil pastel colours blended - then a 'squirt' of Copic mid brown - splatted with a bit of gold ink - then over stamped with a Chinese style text. It's huge fun to make these back grounds - I have a short tutorial for one technique) on my site in 'designs and how to' bit - but there is loads more I could add

NEW IDEA

I had this idea of a Christmas stocking goddie bag. It came from an idea for a patchwork Christmas stocking card - I just added a middle.

I am starting to think of the Christmas fates (got 5 booked so far), and I thought this would be great filled with sweeties - chocolate - tiny smellie miniatures.

THEN

I thought - what a real cutie baby pressie!

So now we have a baby sock - filled with baby miniature smellies!

Yes - I love it when a plan comes together

NEW CARDS

STUDY DAY

Went to class today. Sat next to a lovely lady who was new and just starting to discover what she could do. I do feel a bit awkward when I sit next to someone new of just beginning. I spend my life with a craft knife or a pen in my hands - every day (I have to be really (REALLY) poorly to have not done anything in a day - even my day off). And I just do things. I feel so guilty that I might put someone off because they have to be (dare I say) as good as I am. Not many people are going to seriously study like I do, and I am always happy to share what I have learnt. I just want people to have fun and make something. I hope she had fun and will be back.

COPIC

I have been making myself a new book for Copic reference. I should have started it ages ago at the start of my Copic course, but the book I wanted to use was no good. The only disadvantage of using Copics is that you have to use compatible papers and inks or you end up with a splodgy mess. I am now using a mid weight laser copied paper which seems to work. I just can't get the named varieties that are recommended - and it's no good getting an expensive book with just 20 sheets in it - that won't last me the weekend.

I have now got loads of A5 pages cut with charts and combo templates and am going to leave them overnight to make sure the printer ink is totally dry before I make it up into a proper book

NEW CARDS

BLOOMIN' POST OFFICE - don't they realise that they have sounded the death knell for 1000s of small business folk. Long term the postal strike won't affect me. I still do local shows - every year my sales grow a little bit - I am getting attention in the design and blog world - and I love and believe in what I do. I can spend the time studying my calligraphy and inking, and come out stronger and better - but it's so frustrating to be finally getting somewhere and some other body decides to kill your trade.

It really does make a difference to the look of the whole thing.

Added glitter (glamour dust - silver), tiny star sequin and gems,- oh, and 3D glaze on Rudolph's nose (really effective).

NEW CARDS

I have been making prayer cards for Church today. I have been doing some with a healing prayer in for a 'Service For Healing' later this month. Then I thought - there are loads of times we might need a prayer sent to us or said for us - so I added a section to the 'Faith' bit of my shop.

These are fairly simple cards (A5 size, stamped and embossed cross topper, coloured with Copic ink and matted twice) with an inner that has the prayer printed on it in sepia colour in a hand written looking font. I do them at cost, just as a service really, so they need to be simple and quick to do: just thought there might be people out there who might need a little help from or thank you to God

LIFE

Well my day was well and truly trashed I can tell you.

I had a good yoga session, and was looking froward to a nap and starting work on the prayer card order from church. So I was finishing my lunch and the dogs were going nuts so I thought the parcel from Mad About Cards was arriving. When I went out there was a black and white collie sniffing about - no owner - just the dogie - he came when I called him - collar NO tag. Come on world - you love the dog enough to buy him a collar - but you don't put your phone number on it?

Well, he was an easy going enough chap - know basic commands - and he padded in and out the house while we waited for the dog warden to collect him (what else could we do?). He was getting a bit stressed - in and out - up and down the garden - peeing everywhere and turning up the mud - and trailing it every where. The house was wrecked - muddy paws everywhere - even in my office upstairs - my dogs hyper and hysterical. I have washed all the floors and pacified the guys - etc etc.

If only the dogs collar had had a phone number on it - I would not have had 2 very stressful hours (which will take me a couple of days to get over!) - a thoroughly mucky house - 2 guys of my own hyped out.

LIFE

My dog purrs you know. He does - honest. It's not a growl-ie sound - and he's not whining - it's more of a gentle mmmmmm sound.

He does it mostly when he's really tired. He snuggles in for a cuddle and rolls over for his belly rub - and purrs. He also purrs when you rub his ears.

Of all the dogs I have ever owned / trained / cared for / looked after - Fidget is deffinatly the soppiest.

NEW CARD

OH lor - just spent £40 at http://www.madaboutcards.com/ - they have such an amazing sale section. I have stocked up on loads of organza ribbons - all half price. Helps me keep my prices down (well, it's a good enough excuse). I do seem to be in 'shop' mode at the moment (mostly the fault of my Copics course - you have to love this job don't you:-).

Tag shape - hay cut the corners off an A5 card for a great new look!

But that's not the whole story

Have been tinkering with 'exploding' cards.
It's an old calligraphy / origami trick - you open the card and a folded paper inner opens out.


POOF

All I did was trim the shape so the it ended up that '+' shape - that made it hidden in the tag and you got a Halloween surprise.

That enough? - naaah - added a few hanging bats.
Cut from the Trick or Treat Papers - and just back to back - with a bit of silver thread

MAGIC!!!

NEW CARDS

I have slept most of the day - had a nightmare last night and I am wiped out.

Couple of new doggie cards.

This stamp is 10cm high - it's huge - but it stamps beautifully. One of those un-mounted clear polymer thingies, from a tiny company that makes them. They have a huge range of doggie stamps - so it the dog clubs like the cards I will get a couple more.

NEW IDEA

I have finished the Christmas cards for the dog club at last. I am not a huge fan of big quantities - gets to be a bit of a slog and is a bit too production line for my taste. I think that's why I have resisted getting very involved in weddings. Like playing too much
